"Art is the only way to run away without leaving the house"
I often retreat to my world of art as an escape from the hum of everyday life. Here is where I love to experiment and create, using a variety of media. For as long as I can remember, I have had a love for colour, pattern, design and anything handmade. I have a background in teaching and Interior Design, but my passion lies in creating beautiful pieces of art.
My current collection uses a variety of media such as acrylics, inks and markers on canvas, paper and plyboard.
The Mandala series represents the universal harmony and symmetry found in many parts of nature. I use this process of creation as a form of meditation. It's very structured form ensures I stay in the moment and it also allows the viewer to get lost in the intricacy of the design.
My mixed media series has no structure and, in fact, is the opposite of the mandala series. The process of negative painting is fun and challenging as the basis of this technique is the establishment of the background. Then the fun begins when I look for shapes and images and I start to create them by painting the negative space around them. I add many layers of paint, ink and markers to create the images.
Alcohol inks are another exciting medium to play with. They react in unusual ways on Yupo paper and they tend to have a mind of their own, hence you never really know what you will end up with until they finally dry. I love the vibrancy in the colours and also the layering of colours to create different effects.
The ink on newspaper series is such a delicate process. I use very old newspapers and I create designs using a variety of markers. There is a beautiful contrast between the black ink and the sepia coloured newspaper.
I derive great pleasure in creating these pieces of art and I hope you get just as much pleasure in browsing this site.
